Self-Clinching Standoff Fasteners
PEM Type MSO4™ microPEM self-clinching
standoff fasteners from PennEngineering
enable components to be mounted and/
or spaced in compact electronic assemblies,
especially suiting applications where space
may be extremely limited for attachment
hardware. These stainless steel fasteners
install easily into thin metal host sheets by
pressing them into pre-punched and properly sized mounting holes. After installation,
they become permanent parts of an assembly and will not loosen or fall out. A mating
screw completes component attachment.
Manufactured from heat-treated 400 Series
stainless steel, the microPEM standoffs provide stronger load-bearing threads than weld
standoffs in service. They can be installed
automatically to help accelerate production
runs. PEM Type MSO4 standoffs have been
engineered to install reliably in 300 Series
stainless steel or other metal sheets as thin
as 0.3mm / .012” and as hard as HRB 88
/ HB 183 (or less). Fastener thread sizes as
small as M1.0 / #0-80 and lengths as short
as 2mm / .094” can be specified.
Osram Opto Semiconductors’ SFH 2440 L photodiode saves on mounting height in the
design of heart rate sensors. It can be flush-mounted on the printed circuit board (PCB),
with longer leads ensuring secure mounting and reliable solder points. The component also
features spectral sensitivity specially designed for measuring heart rate. To achieve the best
possible signal-to-noise ratio the SFH 2440 L is equipped with a bandpass filter that sharply
cuts off wavelengths above the visible spectral range. The photodiode also offers extremely
short switching times of 90 nanoseconds so that the detector signals modulated with the
heart rate can be resolved with a high level of precision.
The SFH 2440 L enables the height of the
sensor design to be reduced by the thickness
of the PCB used, because the 1.15 mm
high photodiode can be installed in a cutout
section. Osram supplies the component with
an optimized lead frame in which the length
of the leads has been increased to suit the
application. This not only ensures reliable
solder points but also keeps the footprint on
the board as small as possible.
