Motion Control Software Dev Kit Adds ‘Scope and Tuner Functions
Galil Motion Control Inc. has released
its newest version of the Galil Development Kit (GDK), which enables easy
communication with Galil’s motion
controllers and PLCs. It adds a scope
and tuner function to GDK’s suite of
tools which currently includes:

The scope function emulates a traditional digital oscilloscope. It provides intuitive measuring and zooming tools, trigger tools, autoscale and more. This tool can be used for
tuning, measuring motor settling time and overshoot, and measuring characteristics such
as resonances and backlash.
The tuner is designed to assist in optimizing a system’s performance. It provides a single
interface for editing filter parameters such as pole, notch and PID. The user can edit the
controller’s torque limits, voltage offset and feedforward parameters.

drives from Advanced Motion Controls.
Pronounced “Micro-Z,” these plug-in
drives are designed for embedded
applications in a wide range of industries
including: Robotics, Lab Automation, Homeland
Security/Military, Electric Mobility, Medical and Packaging.
μZ servo drives are designed to drive brushless and brushed DC
motors at a high switching frequency. Designed without the need for a
heatsink, the μZ’s are fully protected against over-voltage, under-voltage,
over-current, over-heating, and short-circuits. Depending on the model,
the drives interface with digital controllers that have analog ±10V or PWM/Direction
commands. To increase system reliability and to reduce cabling costs, the drives are
designed for direct integration into your PCB. Weighing in at less than 9 grams, μZ servo motor drives provide output currents of 10A peak and 5A continuous and operate
with a bus voltage range of 10-36VDC.
Allied Motion’s ResMax 28 high speed brushless motor is
engineered specifically for the rigors of medical ventilator
duty. The 28 mm, 24 V motor is engineered to achieve
very high speed (up to 90,000 RPM) with great dynamic
responsiveness (0 to 50,000 rpm in only 20 ms, unloaded), exceptional operating life (30,000+ hours at 40,000 RPM average speed), maximal
efficiency (up to 90%), rated power of 46 W, and the ability to operate in an oxygen-rich
environment. The motor is equipped with integrated Hall-effect sensors to provide commutation information and a NTC thermal sensor to monitor motor temperature.
The ResMax’s unique stator design provides it with highly effective heat transfer from the
stator to housing, resulting in a low thermal resistance of just 1.2 °C per W. It also has an
innovative rotor design with high magnetic material fill, possessing a very low inertia of
only 0.5E- 7 kgm2, giving the motor its low mechanical time constant of only 20 ms and
high dynamic performance capability.
